French’s Quay B&W, February 2010
I am originally from Cork, Ireland, and lived there for most of my life. I didn’t always appreciate the charms of the city, finding it too small when I studied there, but it was a great and unique place to grow up and come of age in, and I miss it.
This pic was taken for night school during my first ever night time shoot. Our class had several hours to photograph different aspects of the city centre, and I took the chance to capture St Fin Barre’s Cathedral and its golden angel. Growing up, local lore had it that the golden angel had fallen off its perch twice, and that when it fell for the third time it would bring about the end of the world. I was always freaked out by this story as a child, and that’s why I decided to highlight the angel in this photo.
