Blackrock Castle

Boat and Blackrock Castle, July 2010

I’ve just returned from a trip to Cork. I brought the camera, but I was unable to get out and take decent shots due to the filthy weather that plagued us all weekend. In light of this, here’s an older shot of Blackrock Castle, which is close to my childhood home. The castle dates to the early 17th century and is now used primarily as an observatory (hence the dome). However, in the 90’s the castle used to house an old-fashioned cosy tavern, and on summer evenings we would walk or bike over to purchase lemonade and crisps to eat in the sunlight.
