Shire Solstice

Walking on Donside. June 2019

Perhaps it’s the Celt in me, but I always mark the summer solstice, using it as an opportunity to reflect on the year so far and to bask in the perpetual twilight of North East Scotland in midsummer. This year, I spent part of the solstice weekend exploring Aberdeenshire near Monymusk. I’d never been to this part of the Shire before, having mainly ventured towards Deeside and the coast, and was pleasantly surprised by what Donside had to offer. As summer begins to draw to a close, the photos from this weekend bring a sense of warmth, reminding me of both the uncharacteristically good weather and the joy of a day well spent with friends.
